Info

Practical information for visitors travelling to the two host cities

Romania's capital and the festival's main hub (9–14 September), hosting the opening ceremony, the international teachers' seminar, milongas and the practica. Venues included historic locations such as Palatul Bragadiru.

A mountain resort in the Prahova Valley and the festival's second stage (15–18 September), with seminars, day milongas and the closing tango show — including events at Castelul Cantacuzino.

Bucharest is reached via Henri Coandă International Airport; Busteni lies about 130 km north on the Prahova Valley railway and DN1 road, roughly two hours from the capital.

Participants arranged their own stays in central Bucharest and in Busteni's resort hotels and guesthouses, close to the festival venues.

Both cities offer a wide range of restaurants and cafés; the festival's milongas were hosted at venues such as Tango Caffe.

Key venues: Palatul Bragadiru and Tango Caffe (Bucharest), and Castelul Cantacuzino (Busteni). See the Partners section for the host institutions.

About the Project

European Week of Sport in Romania · 10–17 September 2016

We invite all tango lovers to the European Week of Tango in Romania — Bucharest! The "Tango for All" initiative was created by six NGOs across five European nations to encourage citizens' engagement in dance activities, and Argentine tango in particular.

During the European Week of Sport (10–17 September 2016) the programme included an opening ceremony, an international seminar for tango teachers, outdoor demonstrations, a seminar towards establishing an International Federation of Argentine Tango, and a closing ceremony — staged in Bucharest (9–14) and Busteni (15–18).

Objectives. The project aimed to increase participation in tango classes across the partner nations and to promote Argentine tango culture, with an estimated 1,000–3,000 attendees. Case studies looked at teachers' good practices (targeting 50+), dancers' perspectives on their communities, and public opinion on niche-sport participation.

It also sought to develop governance skills among the 12 consortium members and about 30 Romanian tango teachers. The wider European Week of Sport addressed declining youth activity and childhood obesity, workplace wellness, outdoor activity and the role of sport clubs in building inclusive communities.
